Tonia Bui
Tonia Bui, a Senior Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, supports the outreach and communications efforts for the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance’s National Training and Technical Assistance Center (BJA NTTAC).
Tonia joined the Montgomery County Commission for Women in the fall of 2018. She is a communications strategist and a former advocate of underrepresented women at the local, state, and federal level. Additionally, Tonia is the founder of “Politics Within Politics,” a blog for Montgomery Community Media that examines the intersections between gender, race, and politics. Prior to joining the Commission, Tonia served two years on the Montgomery County Community Development Advisory Committee, which provides community development block grant funding recommendations to the County Executive. Among her accomplishments, Tonia has developed a financial literacy program for homeless women in Washington, DC on behalf of Thrive DC, a local non-profit organization. Tonia previously worked for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as well as the former offices of Vice Chair Xavier Becerra of the House Democratic Caucus, U.S. Senator Barack Obama (IL-13), and California Assembly Member Fiona Ma (CA-12).
Tonia holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender & Women’s Studies and Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master in Public Policy from American University. She currently resides with her husband in Silver Spring, Maryland.
