Amber Macdonald is an experienced communications expert with a history in government and executive speechwriting. As former Special Assistant to President Joe Biden and the longtime chief speechwriter for First Lady Jill Biden, Amber has played a pivotal role in shaping some of the most impactful political speeches of recent years. She currently serves as Managing Director & Co-Head of Executive Communications at SKDK, where she continues to shape the narrative for executives and public figures, helping them communicate with authenticity and power.
Amber’s career in public service includes serving as a top speechwriter for high-profile figures such as Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Burwell, Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and Congressman Jim McDermott. In these roles, she skillfully translated complex policy issues into compelling narratives that resonated with diverse audiences. At HHS, Amber developed critical messaging for the Delivery System Reform initiative and was an integral strategist behind several major campaigns promoting the Affordable Care Act.
In addition to her government service, Amber founded her own executive communications firm, where she worked with CEOs, award-winning actors, and thought leaders to craft impactful speeches, bestselling books, and polished stage presentations. Drawing from her background as an actor and playwright, including her time performing at the renowned Upright Citizens Brigade improv comedy theater, Amber brings a unique blend of creativity, storytelling, and stage presence coaching to her work with leaders in both the public and private sectors.
