Melinda Gates believes women politicians are the answer to America’s paid leave problem.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, philanthropist Melinda Gates urged that the answer to America’s paid leave problem is more women politicians. When reflecting on the issue, Gates remarked that many of the older men she met in Congress told her that their wives stayed at home and cared for their kids, a dynamic that is not so common today. Gates remarks come on the heels of the Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers community’s recognition of four female global changemakers.

Abortion is now banned in these states. See where laws have changed.

As a result of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, access to abortion has swiftly changed in roughly half the country. About eight states banned abortion on the day the ruling was released, and several others with antiabortion laws are soon expected to act on dormant legislation. Prior to the ruling in June, 13 states had “trigger bans” designed to start after Roe was struck down. Some judges have temporarily blocked the statewide bans of the procedure.

A congressman’s insult highlights the misogyny women in the climate movement face.

According to experts, women in environmentalism have experienced misogynistic attacks since the movement’s rise in the 1960s. During that time, Rachel Carson, marine biologist and author of “Silent Spring,” exposed the dangers of the pesticide DDT and was called “hysterically overemphatic” and depicted as a witch in a chemical industry magazine as a result. Earlier this month, lawyer and founder of the Energy Justice Law and Policy Center, Raya Salter gave an expert testimony on disinformation in the oil and gas industry and its relation to climate change. During Salter’s testimony, a male representative raised his voice, repeatedly called her “young lady,” and at one point referred to her as “boo.”

Liberal, female, and minority: America’s new gun owners aren’t who you’d think.

There is a recent uptick in female gun owners says California resident Brandi Joseph. In an interview with CNN, Joseph said, “Women are getting trained; women are carrying… liberal and conservative.” Joseph now provides lessons for women that are new to gun ownership. Some of the people taking her class remarked that society and climate are changing, and women should be prepared for their own safety and protection.
